One of the interesting places in Prague is the complex Pragovka. The retouched old factory complex is still being worked into art, fun, study and workplace – meaning you will encounter construction work.

Pragovka offers unique gallery space divided into two halls – one located right next to the café Pragovka, the other on the second floor, where you can get that post-soviet feeling, if that’s what you are into, of a seemingly abandoned building.

directions

Pragovka is located in the Prague district called “Vysočany”. The neighbourhood is accessible by city transport and is approximately
25 minutes away from the Old town.

Using the most typical centre city spot – Wenceslas Square, the city transports options are the following:

BY METRO:

➛ You will need to take yellow line, to which you can get in 3 different ways, based on your preference. You can always double check your journey through portals like Idos or DPP, if you are somewhere else in the city.

➛ From Wenceslas square, you can walk to the nearest yellow only stop,
Náměstí Republiky“, which takes you directly through the new town and offers nice walk. The walk takes about 10 minutes. A great orientation point is the New Yorker store at the bottom of the square (opposite from National museum) and take the street on your right, “Na Příkopech”, once you see beautiful Nouvelle Art town hall on your left, you are 1 minute away from the metro station. This station is one colour only, so all you need to do is go in the right direction.

➛ At the bottom of the square, you can find even closer yellow metro line “Můstek”. Be careful. This line has both green and yellow lines, so be mindful of the guiding boards to enter the correct train. If you are at the top of the square, where the National Museum is, you can take the green line from Museum > Můstek and switch trains there to the yellow line.

➛ Once you get to the yellow line train, you can take the train to “Vysočanská” station (the direction of the train needs to be Černý Most) and then take tram nr. 14 to “Poštovská”. The tram is located on left side as you leave from the underground passageway. Pragovka will be the factory complex on your right side as you take off the tram, the whole ride takes about 5 minutes.

BY TRAM:

➛ You can take the tram from the mid-section of Wenceslas square.

➛ The easiest way to get to Pragovka is to take tram number 14, which goes directly to the “Poštovská” stop. The whole journey takes about 25 minutes. Pragovka will be complex on your right side, as you take off the tram.

things to do

Pragovka is a unique place where you can spend 1-2 hours enjoying art in the local gallery and then a nice cup of coffee in Pragovka café; they are located right next to each other. During warm seasons, you can also enjoy local burgers, surrounded by unique industrial atmosphere.

Art offered in this gallery mostly centers at the contemporary artists from Czech republic but also from other, often Eastern European, countries. The one key feature on the exhibitions showcased in Pragovka is daring, the exhibitions often center at the style that looks at topics we usually don’t talk about, including political topics of today’s world.

Note: The whole complex is not friendly for the disabled who are limited in their movement; while you can get to the complex, there are steep stairs with very fragile wooden plaques. You won’t we able to get to the top gallery at all and getting to the café and lower gallery may require help.

nearby

Once you are bored, you can visit the Prague Legends Museum nearby (movie collectables and figurines – by retaking tram 14 back to Balabenka), check what shows are in the O2 Arena or Universum (10 minutes away – take metro again to Českomoravská) where you can also find local medium size shopping mall “Galerie Harfa” where you can find shops, spa, restaurants or Dino park for children on the top of the roof. During winter you can also find spot for ice skating.
